Abstract

855,442. Preventing corrosion. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 7, 1958 [May 22, 1957], No. 16232/57. Class 123(1) Gluconic acid or a functional derivative thereof is used in aqueous preparations, for example solutions, suspensions, emulsions or pastes, to prevent rusting of tinned mild steel containers or of surgical instruments &c. in contact therewith. The aqueous preparations may be antibacterial or germicidal products, for example, aqueous preparations of long chain quaternary salts or mixtures thereof which may also contain detergent or cleansing substances such as condensation products of alkyl phenols. Suitable functional derivatives of the acid are D-glucono-delta-lactone, water soluble inorganic salts such as ammonium, sodium, potassium or calcium gluconate and water soluble organic salts derived from ethanolamine or di- or triethanolamine, or 1:6-di-(N 1 : N 1 <SP>1</SP>-p-chlorophenyldiguanido-N 5 : N 5 <SP>1</SP>) hexane di-D-gluconate. Between 0À01 and 20 parts by weight of the anti-rusting agent is added to every 100 parts by weight of the aqueous preparation.
