[Also in Group XXXII] Cushioning devices arranged between an article and its packaging container are enclosed in envelopes of impermeable material having apertures which restrict the flow of air to provide damping. In examples, metal springs, blocks of rubberised hair or sponge rubber are wrapped in sheets of polyvinyl chloride or rubber-impregnated cloth having damping apertures reinforced by eyelets. The envelope may be used to pre-stress the cushioning device and may be reinforced by sheets of fibreboard, plywood, &c., between which the cushions are sandwiched.
