To stop or reverse a tape or wire at the end of its travel, a conducting portion 4 touches a contact 5 when, as the last turn is leaving a reel 1 the part 3a moves from the position (shown dotted) where it is tangential to the spool-hub towards a radial position. The switching time available being short, prompt control of the drive is achieved with the aid of a control transistor T. The transistor also forms part of a remote control means (Fig. 1, not shown).
