Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formulae: <FORM:0850334/IV(b)/1> and <FORM:0850334/IV(b)/2> and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts (wherein R1 and R2 are lower alkyl groups with 1-3 carbon atoms and Z represents the atoms completing a pyrrolidino, piperidino, piperazino (including lower alkyl piperazino) or morpholino residue), and the preparation thereof by reacting phenoxazine with a g -di-(lower alkyl)-aminopropyl halide or a g -pyrrolidino-, g -piperidino-, g -piperazino- (including g -N1-(lower alkyl)-piperazino) or g -morpholino-propyl halide (wherein the halogen atom is a bromine, chlorine or iodine atom).ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions or dosage forms comprise a compound of the general formula: <FORM:0850334/VI/1> and <FORM:0850334/VI/2> or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof (wherein R1 and R2 are lower alkyl groups with 1-3 carbon atoms and Z represents the atoms completing a pyrrolidino, piperidino, piperazino (including lower alkyl piperazino) or morpholino residue) with a suitable carrier. They may be administered orally, and may be in the form of aqueous solutions or suspensions containing a sweetening agent, capsules containing an inert filler like lactose, elixirs, or tablets containing an excipient like milk sugar or starch. The compositions have ataractic or tranquilising properties. Specified salts are hydrohalides, malates, nitrate, sulphate, phosphate, acetate, lactate, maleate, citrate, tartrate, fumarate, gluconate and saccharate.
