850,105. Trap doors. MATTHEWS, R. K. Nov. 17, 1958 [Jan. 1, 1958], No. 48/58. Class 20(3) A lowering way door comprises a door frame 1 of channel or trough members and one or more hinged door leaves 16, 18, 19 so disposed that when the door is closed the leaves drain into the frame members and out through a discharge duct 14. Some of the leaves, viz. 19 and 16 .may be provided with a channel 11 which serves to drain water into the frame. At least one of the leaves, viz. 16 has integral therewith an upstand 17, or alternatively with only two leaves such as 18 and 19, both may have upstands at one end e.g. to close an opening in a vertical wall adjacent the lowering way to provide increased head room. The leaves may be pivoted by torsion-bar hinges.
