Abstract

A resin composition comprising a blend of a copolymer of a major proportion of styrene and a minor proportion of acrylonitrile, acrylamide or methyl vinyl ketone, and a substantially nonvolatile plasticiser, which composition having a melting point of from 70 DEG to 100 DEG C. is used as a thermoplastic binder with fibrous material, filler and pigment to form a mastic tile of good colour stability and grease resistance. Plasticisers include, di-octyl phthalate, tri-cresyl phosphate, a soft styrene resin and a condensation resin of olefines with aromatic hydrocarbons both with a softening point of about 25 DEG C., coumaroneindene resins of 60 DEG -100 DEG C. softening point, naphthenic mineral oils, limed tall oil pitch, hydrogenated methyl abietate, unsaturated petroleum distillate resins, and the copolymers may be prepared in bulk or solution by refluxing alone or with a catalyst such as benzoyl peroxide. Fillers described are, asbestos, limestone and pigments.
