848,969. Making thermostats. GERDTS, W. F., and GERDTS, H. R., [trading as GERDTS KOMM.-GES., G. F.]. July 9, 1958 [March 27, 1958], No. 21962/58. Class 83 (2). [Also in Groups XIII and XXIX] Bimetal strips 7 for use in a steam trap (see Group XIII) are cut from long strips of bi-metal made by uniting steels of different thermal expansions by spot-welding or roll-seam welding. Seam-welds extend lengthwise along a long strip from which the strips 7 are cut but the cut-off strips, Fig. 2, have the welds 21 extending obliquely of the strips. Each bi-metal strip 7 may then be in the shape of a parallelogram with two opposite corners, cut off to give two short edges 22 which bear against those of the strip with which it is paired when the pair is bowed. The contacting edges may be dovetailed or interlaced with one another and the strips may be in the shape of quadrangles or triangles with the corners cut off.
