Abstract
A process for the manufacture of blown cellular materials by reaction of a polyisocyanate with a polyester is characterised in that there is incorporated in the reaction mixture a ternary mixture comprising a tertiary amine, water and a monocarboxylic acid containing 12 or more carbon atoms. Suitable polyisocyanates are hexamethylene, toluylene, diphenylmethane-4,41-, m and p-phenylene, monochlorophenyl-2,4- and dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanates. Among the polyesters which may be used those described in Specification 790,420 are advantageous. The tertiary amine can also have present carboxylic, urethane, urea, keto, amide and hydroxyl groups. Specified amines are triethylamine, triethanolamine, b -diethylamino ethanol, bis-(b -diethylaminoethyl) adipate, b -diethylaminoethyl benzoate, b -diethylaminopropionitrile, dimethyl octadecylamine, N-dimethyl cyclohexylamine and N-dimethylbenzylamine. The fatty acid may be lauric, pelargonic, oleic, palmitic, ricinoleic, myristic or stearic acid, or the acids obtained by hydrolysis of palm oil, palm kernel oil or coconut oil. The incorporation of the ternary mixture with the polyester and polyisocyanate may be carried out by the continuous process described in Specification 839.183 Iron compounds, organopolysiloxanes, fillers, colouring matters or flame-proofing agents as powders, or as pastes with the polyesters, isocyanate, tri-cresyl phosphate or water may be added. Specification 553,373 also is referred to.ALSO:A process for the manufacture of blown cellular material by reaction of a polyisocyanate with a polyurethane is characterised in that there is incorporated in the reaction mixture a ternary mixture comprising a tertiary amine, water and a monocarboxylic acid containing 12 or more carbon atoms. Suitable polyisocyanates are hexamethylene toluylene, diphenylmethane-4, 41-, m and p-phenylene, monochlorophenyl-2, 4- and dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanates. Among the polyesters which may be used, those described in Specification 790,420 are advantageous. The tertiary amine can also have present carboxylic, urethane, urea, keto, amide and hydroxyl groups. Specified amines are triethylamine, triethanolamine, b -dielhylamino-ethanol, bis-(b -diethylaminoethyl) adipate, b -diethylaminoethyl benzoate, b -diethylaminopropionitrile dimethyloctadecylamine, N-dimethyl cyclohexylamine and N-dimethylbenzylamine.
