Abstract

848,762. Ironing presses. FREEMAN, D. A. March 3, 1958 [March 29, 1957], No. 6682/58. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XXIII] A press-plate, suitable for pressing fabrics having a rough texture or appearance, comprises a plate of flowable material with the pressing surface thereof roughened by irregular-shaped hollows 21 and upstanding peaks 22 to provide an irregular denting and upstriking action upon the fabric being pressed and thereby avoid the creation of a smooth, shiny surface on the fabric, the peaks being disposed at random and consisting of upstanding material displaced from the hollows and being integral with the plate, the irregularities being of such size that the surface feels rough to the touch. The plate may be perforated or imperforate and may be of aluminium, stainless steel or a plastic such as polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene. The roughening is preferably effected by blasting with particles of blast furnace slag. After roughening the surface may be sprayed or otherwise coated with particulate or globular metal, e.g. aluminium, or ceramic or plastic, e.g. certain polyesters or epoxy resins.
