Abstract
847,773. Thermocouple probes. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 27, 1959 [March 6, 1958], No. 6890/59. Class 40 (1). A thermocouple probe for measuring the temperature of hot gases flowing in a duct comprises a gas collection tube 16, having a row of entry holes 40a-40c and one exit hole 38 centrally disposed with regard to the entry holes, and a tube 22, eccentrically mounted in the gas collector tube and holding two thermocouples opposite the exit hole. The main cross-section of the gas collector tube is ovate and it is so shaped, and the wire-carrying tube 22, so placed, as to form gas flow-directing passages from the entry holes over the thermocouples to the exit hole. The thermocouples may be formed of chromel and alumel wires and the wires may be held, and insulated, in the wire-carrying tube by magnesium oxide.
