Abstract

Entrained polymer solids are recovered from the gaseous material which is the off-gas of a polymer drying step which gaseous material also contains as vapour or fine liquid droplets, hydrocarbon solvent for the polymer and a liquid used previously to precipitate the polymer from the solvent by contacting the off-gas in a scrubbing zone with a quenching and scrubbing liquid which is at least partially immiscible with the solvent or precipitating liquid to form a solid polymer-containing liquid phase, and separating the polymer solids from the liquids in a phaseseparater. Specified polymers are those of ethylene, propylene, butylene, their mixtures or their copolymers with butadiene and isoprene, preferably preferred by low-pressure polymerization. The precipitating liquid may be water vapour. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described. Specifications 790,195, 804,641 and 835,301 are referred to.
