844,628. Pressure-gauges. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 25, 1957 [Nov. 1, 1956], No. 33354/56. Class 106 (2). [Also in Groups VI and XXXVIII] Apparatus for measuring the pressure in a container having a flexible wall comprises an inner member surrounded by an outer annular member, a resilient mounting connecting the two so that the flat portions of the members are coplanar when unstressed, and means for measuring relative deflection of the two members normal to their flat surfaces. Preferably the resilient mounting is in the form of a strip 5 fixed to the inner member 1 at its centre and to the annular member 2 at its ends, the strip being positioned in a trough cut across the annular member. Deflection of one member relative to the other sets up strains in the strip which are measured electrically (see Group XXXVIII). The device is particularly suitable for attachment to the human abdomen for measuring the amniotic pressure in the embryonic sac (see Group VI). It can also be used on rubber-walled articles such as balloons and motor tyres. The annular member 2 need not be circular but may be, e.g., elliptical.
