Abstract

843,880. Ventilating. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 8, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 11100/58. Class 137 A room air conditioning unit comprising a condenser and an evaporator, means for delivering cooling medium to the condenser and for delivering air over the evaporator, has a heat exchanger in the path of the primary conditioned air communicating at one end with a part of the circuit remote from the compressor, a valve connecting the heat exchanger with the compressor discharge, and control means for the valve, the control means also controlling the delivery of cooling medium over the condenser when the valve is operated to put the compressor discharge line into communication with the heat exchanger to raise the temperature of the refrigerant flowing to the heat exchanger. As shown, air for conditioning is blown by a fan 41 over an evaporator 16 connected to a liquid line 15 from a condenser 12 by capillaries 17, 20. A coil 20<SP>1</SP> connected to the hot gas discharge line 13 through a three-way valve 25 controlled by a solenoid valve 24 is also connected by a restriction 31 to the line 15, the coil 20<SP>1</SP> being brought into the circuit when it is necessary to dehumidify the air. The refrigeration system is controlled in response to the humidity and temperature of the air, by switches 30 and 32, switch 30 being responsive to the humidity and switch 32 to the temperature. When humidity and temperature are high, and when the temperature is high and humidity low the compressor 11 is operated and the three-way valve closed; when the temperature is low and the humidity high, the compressor is operated, the three-way valve opened and the fan 40 delivering cooling medium to the condenser stopped.
