Abstract
842,955. Forging nuts; rolling. SCHOSTAL S. A. Aug. 27, 1958 [Sept. 13, 1957], No. 27475/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A nut or the like is made by trueing the end faces and trimming to size a workpiece A 1 ; chamfering the upper end to form workpiece A 2 ; sinking the upper face and chamfering the lower end to form workpiece A 3 ; punching of the internal hole to form workpiece A 4 ; forming the side faces and internally chamfering the hole to form workpiece A 5 . A workpiece A cut from round or profile bar is conveyed successively to work stations I to VII by an intermittently rotating carrier 71, Fig. 3 (not shown), working in a space 4. At station I the workpiece is trimmed to size in a die 6 and compressed between punch 10 and ejector 7 for trueing the end faces. Die 6 may be shaped to form preliminary flats on the workpiece A 1 . At station II the upper end is chamfered by sleeve 23. At station III the upper face is indented by a punch 29 and the lower edge is chamfered by an ejector 31 whilst the workpiece is within die 28. At station IV the workpiece is pierced by a punch 37. At station V the side faces are rolled by tools 47, pivoted at 46, which move downwards with the workpiece; simultaneously, internal bevels are formed by a punch 40 and ejector 44 which has a bore 45 for receiving a pilot 41. At station VI the end faces and chamfers are trued by punches and dies 60-63 and any reference numbers or Trade Marks are marked on the blank and at station VII the nut blank is removed from the carrier by an ejector 70. The upper punches are actuated together by a moving platen 5 and the ejectors are actuated by ejector rods 9, 32, 58, 67.
