Abstract
Particularly useful for the froth flotation of sylvinite ores (NaCl. KCl; see Group II) is a partially saponified reaction product of rosin and an a -b ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, said reaction product containing not substantially more than 0,3% by weight of rosin oils, based on the weight of the rosin, or not substantially more than 0,2% by weight of rosin oils, based on the weight of the reaction mixture. The rosin oils may either be distilled off from the rosin before it is reacted with the acid or anhydride, or be distilled off after the reaction. The saponification is performed with alkali, e.g. Na OH. Acids and anhydrides mentioned are maleic, fumaric, itaconic and citraconic. In an example sylvinite is froth flotated with a mixture of brine, corn pearl starch, cresylic acid and various reaction products of the invention. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 755,149.ALSO:Sylvinite ore (NaCl. KCl) may be separated into its constituents by a froth flotation process which uses a partially saponified reaction product of rosin and are a -b ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic di-carboxylic acid or anhydride, said reaction product containing not substantially more than 0.3% by weight of rosin oils, based on the weight of the rosin, or not substantially more than 0.2% by weight of rosin oils, based on the weight of the reaction mixture. The sylvinite ore in particulate form was mixed with compearl starch, cresylic acid and various products of the invention in a flotation machine filled with brine with NaCl concentrated in the floats and the KCl in the residue. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 755,149.ALSO:In an ore flotation process, particularly of sylvinite (NaCl.KA), there may be used a partially saponified reaction product of resin and an a-b ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, containing not substantially more than 0.3% by weight of rosin oils, based on the weight of the rosin, or not substantially more than 0.2% by weight of rosin oils, based on the weight of the reaction mixture. The preferred alkali for the saponification is NaOH, and acids and anhydrides mentioned are maleic, fumaric, itaconic and citroconic. In an example a sylvinite ore in particulate form was mixed with corn pearl starch, cresylic acid and various products of the invention in a flotation machine filled with brine. The first float was removed for 4 minutes, a further amount of reaction product and cresylic acid was added and the second float was removed for three minutes. The NaCl concentrated in the floats and the KCl in the residue. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 755,149.
