Abstract
Oil is recovered from animal materials, especially fish or fish offal, by mechanically disintegrating the raw material to a pulp, suitably in a vacuum gear pump, treating the pulp with enzymes by adding a substrate of a fermented dead culture of lactic acidproducing bacteria, suitably lactobacillus casei, and recovering the oil by centrifuging the mixture. The enzyme treatment is generally carried out for at least 3 hours at 20-50 DEG C.ALSO:Foodstuff of high free amino-acid content is obtained from oil-containing animal materials, especially fish or fish offal, by mechanically disintegrating the raw material to a pulp, suitably in a vacuum gear pump, treating the pulp with enzymes by adding a subtrate of a fermented dead culture of lactic acid-producing bacteria, suitably lactobacillus casei, and separating the oil from the pulp by centrifuging. The pulp so obtained is then treated with an acid such as formic acid to obtain a pH of 3,6-4,2 and then either kept as pulp or dried to a powder by atomization; the storage properties of both products are stated to be excellent. The enzyme treatment is generally carried out for at least 3 hours at 20-50 DEG C.
