Abstract
Polyols are produced by the oxyalkylation of a polyhydric alcohol selected from glycerol, pentaerythritol, sucrose, sorbitol, a glucoside or 1, 2, 6 - hexane triol with an alkylene oxide (e.g. ethylene oxide or propylene oxide) in a nitrogen containing heterocyclic solvent (e.g. NMP) in the presence of a basic catalyst (e.g. KOH).
