842,390. Ticket-issuing machines. BURROUGHS CORPORATION. Oct. 11, 1956 [Feb. 14, 1956], No. 31052/56. Class 106 (3). [Also in Group XVI] A ticket-issuing and printing-machine comprises at least one record strip R, Fig. 3, that is movable across a ticket strip T, printing means for acting on the superimposed portions of the record and ticket strips, the printing means being movable out of its operative position to permit manual writing in on the ticket and record strips, and control means whereby a printing cycle is initiated and the ticket and record strips are advanced, the advance of the record strip or strips being less than that of the ticket strip T. As shown, a second record strip R<SP>1</SP> moves parallel with the upper record strip R but passes below the ticket strip T. Printing means. The printing means are housed in a box 128, Fig. 4, pivoted on ears 130, and comprise date-wheels 176, 177; ticketnumbering wheels 182, 183; serial numbering wheels 185; and guide strips 168 and 170 for holding a type face within the box 128. C is an inked ribbon through which the data on the type face is printed on the record strip R, such data being, for example, a code designation 444, Fig. 10, total fare 446, net fare 448 and tax 450. The record strip R is provided on part of its underside with a carbon coating so that on lowering the box 128 the detals therein will be impressed through the carbon coating on to the ticket strip T. The ticket strip T may also have a carbon coating strip on part of its underside such that the data printed on the record strip R is also printed on the record strip R<SP>1</SP>. Cycle of operation. The desired type face is inserted in the box 128 and the box is pressed down to initiate a printing cycle which causes a platen to press the record and ticket strips together against the counter pressure of the type face and the date and number printing wheels 176, 177, 182, 183. The ticket strip T is then advanced a ticket length by pin-wheels 61 engaging perforations 384, 386 therein while the record strips are advanced to the extent of one perforation by pin-wheels 86 engaging perforations 420, 422 therein. The record strip R is projected from the machine and the record strip R<SP>1</SP> is passed to a receptacle within the machine. As the ticket strip T is advanced, its edge portions 388, 390 are torn off, by the action of a stripper element 65, along perforations 392, 394. After the printed ticket has been issued it is torn off along a line of perforations against a lip 303. The machine comes to rest with the printing-box in a partially raised position so that the type face may be removed and the box is then ready for the insertion of another type face. Autographic facilities. If no type face is available for a particular destination, the destination and price data are recorded by raising the printing box 128 to an uppermost position and writing the data on the upper record strip R. Printing mechanism. This is the same as described in Specification 807,509.
