Abstract
The invention comprises 1-naphthyl-N-alkyl-carbamates wherein the alkyl groups contain 1 to 7 carbon atoms. Compounds specified are 1-naphthyl-N-methyl-, -ethyl-, -isopropyl-, -n-butyl- and -n-hexyl-carbamates. They are used in insecticidal compositions (see Group VI). In examples an aqueous solution of sodium 1-naphthoxide is reacted with a mixture of phosgene and toluene, the organic layer separated and distilled to give 1-naphthyl chloroformate, which is reacted further with an aqueous solution of methylamine or a solution of n-hexylamine in dioxane to give 1-naphthyl N-methyl- or -n-hexyl-carbamate. Other compounds used in comparative tests for insecticidal activity are specified, i.e. 1-naphthyl - N : N - dibutyl -, N - (N1 : N1 - dimethylaminoethyl)-, N-1-naphthyl- and N-(alpha - methyl) benzyl - carbamates, p - acetylphenyl N - methyl - carbamate, phenyl N : N - dimethyl - carbonate, p - tert. butylphenyl N : N - dimethyl - carbamate and 2 : 3 : 5 - trimethyl - phenyl N - phenyl - carbamate.ALSO:The invention comprises insecticides containing an active ingredient a 1-naphthyl N-alkylcarbonate wherein the alkyl group contains 1-7 carbon atoms (see Group IV(b)) together with one or more inert diluents. Other insecticide and fungicides may be included.
