Abstract
The invention comprises water-insoluble dyes which are free from SO3H and COOH groups and are of formula: <FORM:0840903/IV (c)/1> where X is H, alkyl, CN, CF3, phenyl or substituted phenyl, R is a 3-chloro- or -bromo -2-hydroxypropyl group, R1 is H or an alkyl or alkylene group of 1-4 carbon atoms which may be substituted and the benzene nucleus may be substituted. They are made by coupling appropriate diazotised 5-nitro -2- aminothiazoles with the required aniline derivatives. Specified for X are methyl, ethyl and n-butyl and m-nitro- and #s-chloro-phenyl. Specified for R1 are methyl, ethyl, n-propyl and n-butyl which may be substituted by OH, OAIK, CN, CI or Br, and alkyl. Indicated as substituent groups for the benzene residue are alkyl, alkoxy, acylamido and halogen. The dyes colour animal fibres, e.g. wool, silk and regenerated protein fibres and fibres of cellulose esters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters and polyacrylonitriles by treatment with an aqueous dispersion. Violet to greenish-blue shades are obtained. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing processes.
