Abstract

Frames 11 of fire-resistant glass-fibre-reinforced cement are closed off by sheets 12 of ceramic board at one face, and a sealant 17 is cast in the frame. This component is built into the building structure in place of a standard building module, and services 19, e.g. cables or pipes, can readily be introduced by drilling or cutting through board 12. Sealant 17 closes around services 19 to seal them in place. Sealant 17 may be elastomeric or intumescent, or a mastic. Modifications include use of a non-elastomeric fire-resistant filling combined with localised sealing after services have been introduced. <IMAGE>
