Abstract

840,585. Selective printing. KOOPERATIVA FORBUNDET EKONOMISK FORENING. March 31, 1958 [March 30, 1957], No. 10329/58. Class 100(4). An electrically controlled printing apparatus comprises a series of synchronously operated type-members e.g. type-wheels 3, Fig. 2, which are arrested individually at required positions by magnetically operated stops 18 automatically controlled by pre-selection determined by a plurality of coupling members 70, Fig. 8, each consisting of two sets of contacts 66, 67 and each provided with a particular pattern of interconnections so that required characters are printed in the required columns. The coupling members 70 are mounted in parallel slots S in a selecting device comprising a framework 49, 50, 51 Fig. 4 and the contacts 66 of each are all in contact with rails 47 A-M,the contacts 67 are selected by movement of a contact arm 54 suspended on a travelling carriage 52 which is coupled to an indicator 59. To effect printing, which is made in one line at a time, a handle 38 is moved and a motor 5 commences and continues to run because a cam 40 closes contacts 41. A wiper 42 serially makes with contacts A-M in synchronism with rotation of the type-wheels 3 so that when a required character is in printing position above a hammer 25, a circuit is completed from the wiper, through the particular connection in the coupling member 70 to an electromagnet 19 which operates a stop 18. When the stop engages a notch in the back half of the type-wheels the driving shaft 4 continues to rotate to position the remaining type-wheels. This slipping connection comprises a spring plunger 15 radially mounted in the shaft 4 and co-acting with a cam groove 15 on the inside of the type-wheels. When the shaft 4 has rotated 180 degrees, printing occurs and the typewheels are then reversed to their home position, effected by a segment gear 14 engaging a rack 12 which is moved in direction opposite that made by a segment gear 13 during the setting operation. The printing apparatus may comprise two sets of type-wheels, a first for printing invoices which are fed along the guideway 231 and printed by the wheels 3, and a second set for printing on cards which are stored adjacent to the corresponding coupling member 70. The cards are partly raised by a lifting arm and then placed in position for printing by the second set of type-wheels.
