Abstract
840,068. Meteorological instruments. ARMO Inc. (Grieger, T. H.). Feb. 18, 1958, No. 5267/58. Class 97(3) [Also in Group XXXIII] An icing detector comprises a projecting mast 5 carrying, at its outer end, a disc 6 on a shaft 12 continuously rotated by a motor 22 with reduction gearing 23, a feeler 26 being disposed near the periphery of the disc on a parallel shaft 25 so that formation of ice on the disc 6 causes movement of the feeler and rotation of the shaft 25 to operate a switch 29 through a cam 28. This completes a circuit through a heater in the disc 6, fed through slip rings 14, 15, to remove the ice from the disc. At the same time a warning lamp is lit. The mast 5 is continuously heated by an external or embedded heater at its leading edge. Closure of the switch 29 also operates de-icing equipment for the surface.
