Abstract
839,903. Cutting plastic materials. SADA, P. Dec. 5, 1957 [May 29, 1957], No. 37867/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XVII] In a machine for filling cans with foodstuff, e.g. meat, in the plastic state (see Group XVII), the foodstuff is extruded through the outlet 162 of a chamber 6 against a spring loaded plate 163 and when an amount sufficient to fill a can has been extruded, the plate operates a microswitch 173 to cause energisation of a motor 4 which drives a main cam shaft 89. A cam 96 on this shaft then operates a lever 100 which is coupled by rods 105 to a vertically-slidable frame 125 carrying a band knife 138 passing over pulleys 134, 135 and driven continuously by an electric motor on the frame the resulting upward movement of the frame thus causing the knife to-sever the extruded meat adjacent. the outlet 162 so that it falls into a can. If the blade encounters undue resistance during its upward movement, a microswitch is operated to stop the machine, see Fig. 14 (not shown), The foodstuff is extruded by a hydraulicallyoperated piston 40, the supply of pressure fluid to the activating cylinder 31 being controlled automatically so that the piston is operated to extrude the required amount of foodstuff after each reciprocation of the frame 125 and is returned to the starting position when it has completed a full stroke to the left.
