Class 34(2) A wet or moist thermoplastic solid substance in granular, pasty or dispersed form is dried by causing the particles of the substance to rub one upon another so as to generate sufficient frictional heat to evaporate the moisture. The substance may be polyvinyl chloride or a polyvinyl ester or acetal. The chloride may be dried by subjecting its particles to a sliding motion but the ester or acetal requires a sliding and rolling motion. A known homogenizing, plasticising or gelatinizing apparatus is used for the drying process, if necessary, after removal of the greater part of the moisture by a mechanical squeezing operation, and accompanied, if desired, by conversion of the dried substance into a shaped structure.
