Abstract

838,558. Envelopes. LAMSON PARAGON Ltd. Oct. 31, 1958 [Oct. 31, 1957], No. 34082/57. Class 146(2) A continuous envelope assembly comprises a series of envelopes arranged side by side to form a web consisting of envelopes formed from two separate webs, a single folded web, or separate envelopes mounted on a backing sheet. In Fig. 2 two webs a, b are adhesively joined at one end and along transverse line d through which a perforated or scored line e runs separating adjacent envelopes 1, 2, 3. Spaced lines of heat or self-sealing adhesive 1a<SP>1</SP>, 1b<SP>1</SP>, 2a<SP>1</SP>, 2b<SP>1</SP> are so arranged on the flaps a<SP>1</SP> and the adjacent part of the web b of adjacent envelopes 1, 2 that on folding the flaps longitudinally of the web they contact each other to seal the envelope while if the web is folded in zig zag fashion transversely on the lines e the adhesive lines do not contact each other and thus prevent adhesion during storage. The assembly in Fig. 1 is designed to be folded on a line f and to be sealed by tranversely arranged lines of adhesive 1e, 1f which do not contact similar lines 2e, 2f of an adjacent envelope 2 when the assembly is folded in zig zag fashion. In this embodiment feed apertures S<SP>1</SP> are provided in a stub S separable from the envelopes along a weakened line S<SP>2</SP> and the flap a 2 is extended at a<SP>x</SP> to form a data strip having feed apertures S<SP>3</SP> separable from the flap a<SP>2</SP> along a weakened line a<SP>x1</SP>. In other modifications the heat or self-adhesive strips are replaced by continuous or discontinuous straight lines of adhesive arranged in staggered positions in adjacent envelopes. If there is more than one envelope between folds of the zig zag pack the adhesive lines are staggered between adjacent groups of envelopes.
