Abstract

A refractory metal oxide compact is made by hot pressing between 600-1000 DEG C. powdered oxide of an average crystallite diameter of less than 0.1m if the oxide is stoichiometric, and of less than 0.25m if the oxide is non-stoichiometric. Specified are magnesia, berrylia, titania, calcia, strontia, baria, zirconia, hafnia, thoria, plutonium and uranium dioxides, and UO2+x where x does not exceed 0.25. Specification 801,381 is referred to.ALSO:A refractory metal oxide compact is produced by hot pressing between 600 DEG -1000 DEG C. powdered oxide of an average crystallite diameter of less than 0,1m if the oxide is stoichiometric, or of less than 0,25m if the oxide is non-stoichiometric. Specified are magnesia, beryllia, uranium dioxide, titania, calcia, strontia, baria, zirconia, hafnia, thoria, plutonium dioxide and UO2+x where x does not exceed 0,25, and their mixtures, e.g. uranium dioxide and berrylia. Specification 801,381 is referred to.
