836,115. Road-traffic signals on vehicles; bells. WILLIAMS, A. Nov. 26, 1956 [Aug. 26, 1955], No. 24584/55. Classes 13 and 118 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A warning device for use on cycles and the like capable of producing both an audible and a visual warning signal comprises in combination with an electrically-illuminated cycle lamp a bell on the operation of which a rotatable switch member makes and breaks an electric circuit to the lamp. A cycle bell gong 6 enclosing operating mechanism 1 is mounted at the rear of the casing 2 of an electric lamp. The operating lever 13 is connected by a cable 14 to a lever 15 on the handlebar of the cycle. Within the body of the bell 1 is mounted an insulating block 7 supporting a contact wiper blade 8 wired into the lamp circuit and extending on to the side of a gear-wheel 9, the major portion of the surface of which is covered by an insulating layer (indicated by shading). When the bell is operated with the lamp switched on the wheel 9 rotates at high speed and the blade 8 makes intermittent contact with the metal portion of its surface, causing the lamp to flash.
