Abstract
The invention comprises reserpine thiocyanate and a process for the separation of alkaloids by treating material containing reserpine and substantially nothing but further weakly basic alkaloids, particularly deserpidine, with thiocyanic acid (or a salt thereof and an acid) whereby reserpine thiocyanate is preferentially formed. Examples detail the preparation of reserpine thiocyanate and the recovery of reserpine and deserpidine from Rauwolfia and Alstonia species. Specifications 734,108 and 772,122 are referred to.
