Abstract

835,211. Automatic voltage control systems. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. July 12, 1957 [July 27, 1956], No. 24263/59. Divided out of 835,210. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage regulator for a shunt excited D.C. generator having a transistor in series with the field, the transistor is controlled either directly or over a thermal relay by a Zener diode responsive to generator output voltage. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a transistor 50 in series with the field F of the generator G is cut-off when the generator voltage rises to the value at which the Zener diode D conducts. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the base of the transistor 60 is connected to the collector by a resistor K having a high positive temperature coefficient so that when the Zener diode D conducts and energizes the heater H, the resistor K rises in value so that the transistor 60 is biased to cutoff. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a resistor with a negative temperature coefficient replaces the resistor K and is connected between base and emitter.
