Abstract
834,802. Batteries. YARDNEY INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. April 11, 1956 [April 11, 1955], No. 11055/56. Class 53. An electrode assembly for an electric battery comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an interposed semi-permeable separator, which includes at least one layer of a sheet material that has been irradiated with slow neutrons, beta rays, gamma rays, or X-rays. The sheet may be wrapped round either or both electrodes and may be formed from a thermoplastic material, e.g. a polyamide, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, ethylene glycol polyesters, polyvinyl alkyl ethers, polyacrylic acids and esters, polystyrene, or polyethylene. An ionexchange resin may be incorporated in the separator material, e.g. as described in Specification 762,080. A number of the electrode assemblies may be arranged in a casing to form a battery which may be an alkaline battery of the silver-zinc type as described in Specification 680,793.
