Abstract

A waterproofing composition comprises by weight (1) 10 to 60% of an orthotitanate of the formula Ti(OR)4, wherein each R is an aliphatic or hydroxylated or aminated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of less than 12 C atoms and containing less than 4 OH groups, or an aliphatic hydrocarbon-soluble partial hydrolysate thereof; (2) 25 to 75% of a methylsiloxane copolymer consisting essentially of trimethyl siloxy and SiO2 units in such proportion that the CH3 : Si ratio ranges from 1 to 1.25; and (3) 10 to 50% of a liquid siloxane of the formula R1nSiO 4-n/2 , containing both lower alkyl and chlorinated phenyl radicals having an average of from 3 to 5 chlorine atoms per phenyl nucleus, and in which the chlorinated phenyl radicals constitute from 5 to 25% of the total number of radicals, and n has an average value between 1.96 and 2.5, the liquid siloxane (3) having a viscosity of from 10 to 100,000 cs. at 25 DEG C. Titanium esters specified are tetramethyl-, tetraethyl-, tetrabutyl-, tetradecyl-, octyleneglycol-, tetradodecyl-, tetrahydroxyethyl-, tetrahydroxybutyl-, tetra-aminoethyl- and tetramethylaminobutyl-titanates and their partial hydrolysates. The specified ingredients are preferably mixed with a volatile solvent therefor, e.g. Stoddard solvent, mineral spirits, acetone, trichlorethylene or ethylene dichloride, and used in conjunction with a liquefied gas which acts as a propellent and is also a solvent for the ingredients, e.g. dichlorodifluoro-, dichlorofluoro-, chlorodifluoro- and trichloro-fluoro - methanes and difluorodichloroethane. Waxes, e.g. paraffin, bees, synthetic hydrocarbon, microcrystalline, oxidized microcrystalline, ceresin, Japan and polyethylene oxide waxes, and anti-haze ingredients may also be added. Examples of the compositions are given in the form of aerosol bomb formulations. Specifications 630,911 and 705,277 are referred to.
