Abstract

834,045. Variable track wheels. KELSEYHAYES CO. April 26, 1957 [June 11, 1956], No. 13399/57. Class 144 (2). A variable track wheel comprises a rim 11 provided with radially inwardly-projecting, elongated, axially and circumferentially inclined, rails 12 spaced around its inner periphery to engage slidably in correspondingly inclined, elongated, radially outwardly opening grooves 14 formed integrally in the peripheral flange 15 of the wheel body 10 so that on relative rotation of the wheel body and rim, the rim is adjusted axially with respect to the wheel body, means 26, 28 being provided to lock the rim in adjusted position. As shown, the wheel body flange 15 is indented with elongated, axially and circumferentially inclined, open-ended channels 14 which each have radially inwardly convergent side walls 16 and a centrally disposed hole 19 in its base 18. The rails 12 are of complementary shape, having side flanges 21 which are welded to the inner periphery of the rim base 13, Fig. 9. The radially inner base of each rail has a radially outwardly bowed longitudinal rib 24 which has a central longitudinal slot 25 receiving a locking bolt 26 disposed with its head 27, Fig. 2, within the rail. In the assembled rim and wheel body the bolt 26 is engaged in the channel hole 19 and the assembly is locked by a nut 28 on the bolt 26.
