833,266. Magnetic sound records. TOKYO DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Jan. 25, 1957 [Jan. 25, 1956; Jan. 28, 1956 (4); Feb. 14, 1956; May 19, 1956 (3)], No. 2799/57. Class 40 (2). A magnetic record sheet M (Fig. 4) has margins 17, 18 not coated with the magnetic film. The width " l" is equal to the chordal distance between any two adjacent heads (a, b, c) on a rotating carrier 1 (Fig. 1). The sheet may be stiffened by coating the marginal areas with a plastic material or pasting on metal foil or sheet plastic material. The sheet has printed information on the reverse side so that when placed magnetic film side downwards in a reproducing machine the printed information is visible through a transparent pressure plate. The information bearing side may be coated with a light-sensitive film for photographic reproduction. The sheet may be made larger than the pressure plate (see Fig. 22) so that an additional area is available for descriptive notes. A construction is described (Fig. 11) in which the sheet consists of a central layer of paper, plastic or metal foil 23 coated on one side with a magnetic film 14 and having a sheet of resilient material such as a filter paper 27 secured to the other side by thermoplastic adhesive 26. A second construction (Fig. 14) describes a transfer process for attaching a magnetic film to the back of a printed sheet or photograph 32. The transfer sheet 28 carries a magnetic film and a layer of thermoplastic adhesive 29. After heating and pressing to unite the magnetic film and the sheet 32, the transfer sheet 28 is stripped off. Conventional apparatus is described for piercing the sheet with filing and registration holes and trimming to size.
