Abstract

A latch mechanism comprises three latch assemblies 14, 15, 16 for mounting in longitudinally spaced relation in the locking stile 10 of the door, each latch assembly comprising a housing 17, a latch member 18 slideably mounted in the housing for movement between an extended position where one end of the member projects from the edge face of the stile 10 for engagement with a fixed striker 20, and a retracted position where it lies within the stile. One side face of said projecting end of each latch member 18 is angled and within each housing 17 is a spring to oppose sliding movement of the latch member to the retracted position. An operating shaft 21 is provided for effecting manual retraction of the latch member of the central assembly 14 and a linkage 23, 24 interconnects the operating shaft with the latch member in each further assembly 15, 16 so that rotation of the shaft 21 to effect retraction of the latch member 18 in the central assembly 14 simultaneously effects retraction of the other two latch members. <IMAGE>
