829,834. Broaching. KOCH, F. K., [trading as PELTZER & EHLERS K.G.]. July 22, 1957 [July 28, 1956], No. 23063/57. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXV] A machine for slotting screws comprises a cam 12 for axially-displacing a series of pins 11 for holding screws in slots in a drum 8a, 8b, and a radiallyadjustable broaching - device 3 for slotting the heads of the screws. The machine has two drums on opposite ends of a driven shaft, and two corresponding sets of tools 3. The screws travel from a container 7 along guiderails 4, and are deflected by a finger 5 into wedge-shaped slots 9 in a detachable disc 8b. The screws are held fast as they pass the tools by the resilient pins 11 engaging the fixed axiallyadjustable cam 12. The tools are mounted on a slide 17 adjustable axially of the drum on a swinging arm 18. A plough 20 removes the slotted screws from the drum, the movement of the screws pushing back the pins 11. A safety-device to ensure removal of all screws comprises a bevelled disc 23 which, if it contacts an irremovable screw, operates a stop-switch. The tools may be set by a gauge attached by magnets to the drum 8a, 8b.
