Abstract

A hot wire katharometer is characterized by a filament whose resistance is not less than 10 ohms per inch of linear distance between the filament ends. The filament may be a coiled helix and generally the diameter of the filament is less than 0.001 inch. The greatest accuracy with these instruments is found when the resistance is high and a 4-inch instrument resistance of 100 ohms or more may be used.
