Abstract

The inflatable sac of a sphygomanometer cuff is made narrow in relation to its length, to ensure more positive compression of an artery and prevention of blood flow. In the example described the sac is between 2 and 3 cms. wide and it is enclosed in a sheath having a striplike extension for wrapping round a limb to hold the cuff in position.
