Abstract
828,273. Washing vehicles. SMITH, O. D:, and EQUIPMENT & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 17, 1958 [Sept. 17, 1957; April 19, 1958], Nos. 29195/57 and 12489/58. Class 138(1) Vehicle washing equipment comprises a power driven rotary brush 4, at least one waterspray pipe 8, and a pump 12 driven from the same power source as the brush for feeding detergent into the water supply. As shown the equipment is carried on a wheeled platform 1, the brush being driven via belt 5 and electric motor 6, and the pump via the upper end of the shaft of the brush. Detergent is pumped from container 9 through filter 13, pipes 11, 14 and control valve 15 into the spray pipe(s) 8 at 16. A cowling 7 is provided. Normally a vehicle 17 passes between two such devices 18, Fig. 3, and may automatically control with the brush drive and the water supply by e.g. interrupting a radiation beam falling upon a photo-electric cell 20 to actuate a device 23 which controls both the electric power supply to the motors 6 through a relay 24 and the water supply through a valve 26 ; interruption of the beam to the cell 22 cuts off the power and water supplies. Pneumatic tube actuators, Fig. 4 (not shown), may replace the photo-electric systems.
