Abstract
827,688. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. HEDLEY & CO. Ltd., T. Sept. 9, 1958 [Sept. 13, 1957], No. 28925/58. Class 106(5) A liquid metering dispenser comprises a body 13 suitable for attachment to a container spout or neck 12, a metering chamber 22 bounded on one side by a wall 15 intermediate the ends of the body and having in an inlet aperture 16, a hinged lid 17 attached to the body and spring- biased to close normally, an outlet from the chamber 22, a valve 28 suspended from the lid 17 through the inlet 16, the valve being in the open position when the lid is closed and moved into its closed position when the lid is opened to a pre-determined extent, whereby a metered quantity of fluid can be dispensed from the chamber 22 upon inverting the container and opening the lid to the pre-determined extent. The valve head is formed integral with its stem 27, the latter being secured to the lid by a ball-end 29 which is held by a plurality of flexible retainers 30. The lidbiasing spring 23 has one end 24 in contact with an abutment 25 in the handle 18, the other end 26 bearing against the lower surface of the lid-pivot support 20 to hold the pivot in position. 'The spring 23 may be of U- or L-shape. A protective cover 31 of polyethylene or like material may be inserted into the spout 12 to inhibit air circulation into the container or spillage during transit. After removal of the cover 31 and re-fitting the device, preferably by screwing it on to the spout 12, the liquid may be repeatedly dispensed by inverting the container 11 and closing and opening the lid, without returning the container to an upright position. If a continuous stream is required the handle 18 is depressed sufficiently to open the lid without closing the valve 28. The body of the device and the wall of the metering chamber may be moulded in transparent plasic material. The edge 37 of the chamber 22 is bevelled to reduce dripping after discharge. At least one projection 36 from the underside of the lid is provided to reduce the torque transmitted to the hinge when screwing the dispenser on or off the neck of the container 11.
