Abstract

827,145. Joining glass parts together. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 19, 1958 [Aug. 22, 1957], No. 26636/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. In joining pre-heated glass edges together (particularly those of the cone and screen of a cathode ray tube) by holding them together and passing an electric current through the glass, the current is temporarily interrupted during the process. This allows the (hotter) outer sides of the edges to cool somewhat so that, on resumption of the electric heating, a more uniform temperature across the edges finally results. The period of interruption may equal that of the initial electric heating and be half that of the subsequent.
