Class 52(5) [Also in Group XXV] A lay figure comprises a carrier 33, for a garment-carrying structure, and a telescopic support 17, the carrier and the support being secured together by a connector consisting of a disc 24, secured to the support 17, a threaded shaft 23, secured to the disc 24 and passing through a pair of clamping discs 26, 27, which receive, slidably, between them the carrier 33, and a locking nut 28 clamping the three discs together. The garment-carrying structure consists of an angularly adjustable waist block 42, provided with U-shape skirt supporting arms 48, and a moulded bust portion 55 with plastic-covered wire arms 58 retained in sockets 57 by ball detents 61, the structure being secured by screws to the carrier 33 which is splined and slides in a splined channel formed by grooves 31, 32 in the opposing faces of the discs 26, 27. The discs 26, 27 are slidable on the shaft 23 and are urged apart by springs 29, 35 to allow adjustment when clamping pressure is released. Opposing faces of discs 24, 26 have meshing teeth 34, 36 to prevent relative rotation. In a modification the disc 24 is secured to the carrier 33 and the splined shaft forms part of the support.
