Abstract

A method of annealing non-ferrous metal wire comprises winding the wire on to a spool comprising a barrel having discontinuous end flanges formed as a plurality of outwardly extending arms. There may be substantially V-shaped gaps between each pair of arms and the free ends of the arms may be joined by pieces of short radial depth. The barrel and flanges may be of mild steel and the barrel and inner surfaces of the arms may be coated with copper. The wire may be wound tightly on to the spool. The method is stated to be particularly suitable for the prevention of discoloration of copper wire. Specification 825,540 [Group IX] is referred to.
