Abstract
825,442. Aircraft. HEINECKE, H. H. March 19, 1956 [Feb. 8, 1955], No. 3636 /55. Class 4. An aircraft, which may be a toy has front and rear wings 11, 12 connected at each side of the centre line of the aircraft by an outlying fin, boom, or pod which extends above and below the wings as a web or fin. In the Fig. 1, the upper and lower fins 14, 15 on a boom 13 are of greater depth in the region of the wings 11, 12. The wings may be aligned without incidence, and the trailing edges of the rear wings may have a negative angle of incidence of 2 degrees at the regions 16. The lateral areas of the fins above and below the boom centre line are in the ratio of 1 to 1, to 1À5 to 1. The area of the rear wings is 10 to 50 % greater than that of the front wings. The centre of gravity CG lies between the wings preferably mid-way between the one third chord position of each wing, and the total areas of the aircraft before and behind the CG, measured either in plan or elevation, are in the ratio of 1 to 1À1, to 1 to 1À5. The rear wings may be swept forwards or rearwards, and the rear wings may taper, Fig. 9 (not shown). Conventional control surfaces may be disposed at the trailing edges of the rear wings and fins, or all-movable surfaces may be disposed on the booms outside the front and rear wings. The power plant is preferably installed at or behind the centre of gravity. The fuselage and booms may have a circular, elliptical, diamond, hexagonal, or pear-shaped cross-section.
