In a page teleprinter including a keyboard transmitter having a space bar and a run-out key, and associated with the printing arrangement to provide a home record of the message transmitted, a tabulator arrangement comprises a lug on the moving carriage of the teleprinter, a rod arranged parallel to the direction of movement of the carriage and having one or more cams and a rocker or arm thereon, and in the tabulation operation the lug during the movement of the carriage engages one or more of the cams to actuate the rod and cause the rocker or arm to act via associated electrical or mechanical means on the run-out key to render it ineffective for the continuation of a spacing operation initiated by the actuation of the space bar. On the operation of the space bar 28 a member 29 is moved downwardly to unlatch the lower end 30 of the pivoted lever 31 having blocking engagement with a surface on a pivoted pawl 8 usually held in the position shown by a compression spring 9 acting on the left-hand end of the run-out key lever 10. On the depression of the key 10 subsequent to the actuation of the bar 28, the pawl 8 is rocked clockwise by its spring 34 and takes with it the lever 31 so that its upper end 36 moves to the left under the action of a light loading spring 38 and against the action of a light biasing spring 40 to bring clutch member 27 into engagement with an associated member 27A so that the carriage spacing arrangement is operated from the printing shaft. When the lug 11 on the carriage 24 engages a cam member 2 adjustably positioned on the rod 21, the supporting rocker arms 1 are moved clockwise and an extension 3 of one of the arms closes contacts 4 in the circuit of an electromagnet 6 which by attracting its armature 7 connected to the pawl 8 restores the latter to its position shown in which the clutch member 27 is moved to the right by its biasing spring 40 and the spacing movement of the carriage 24 is terminated. The tabulator arrangement can be disconnected by opening the switch 20. In a modification, Figs. 2, 2a (not shown), the extension 3 is connected to a slidably mounted rod having an operating projection in engagement with lever arm of the pawl 8 in its operated position so that upward movement of the extension 3 rotates the pawl 8 clockwise to its normal position in which the clutch members 27, 27A are disconnected.
