Abstract
824,524. Batteries. SVENSKA ACKUMULATOR AKTIEBOLAGET JUNGNER. Dec. 27, 1957, No. 40221/57. Class 53. A battery having alkaline electrolyte and semi-permeable separators between the electrodes is provided with electrodes of such cross-section that spaces for the electrolyte are provided between the electrodes and separators. In one construction the separators are flat and the electrodes corrugated. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which a flat support 1 is coated with active material 2 which is so shaped that spaces 4 are formed between the electrode and the separator 3. Fig. 3 shows a further modification. Other modifications are described in which the active material is grooved in one or two directions, the grooves being of rectangular or other shape. The grooves may be vertical to facilitate filling of the battery with electrolyte. The support 1 may consist of wire, gauze, or sheets of iron, nickel, silver, copper, zinc, brass or their alloys, and the active material may contain the same metals or cadmium or lead. The electrodes may also consist of sintered metals.
