Abstract

824,441. Safety control devices for arc welding systems. WAGON REPAIRS Ltd. July 8, 1958 [July 11, 1957], No. 21987/57. Class 38 (4). A safety device for an arc-welding system comprises a relay D energized by the manual operation of a switch G in an electrode holder A1 from a transformer E and a rectifier F, the relay D being maintained energized in response to the current flowing in the welding arc between the electrode A and the work C by means of a current transformer K in the main supply lead B and the rectifier F, time delay means, such as a dashpot D2 being associated with the relay D1 in order that the supply to the weld may be maintained during arc failures of predetermined short duration but which supply is disconnected if this duration is exceeded. The current transformer K may be replaced by an auxiliary relay and the main relay may be operated by alternating current, the rectifier F then being omitted.
