Abstract

A germicidal soap is made by roller milling iodine and carboxymethyl cellulose and stirring therewith molten soap. U.S.A. Specification 2,047,398 is referred to.ALSO:A water-soluble composition comprises iodine in combination with a water-soluble polymer selected from methyl and carboxymethyl cellulose, amine-formaldehyde resins and copolymers of maleic anhydride with polymerizable vinyl compounds. In the examples iodine is mixed on a roller mill with (1) a methyl vinyl ethermaleic anhydride copolymer, (2) sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, (3) a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer, (4) methyl cellulose, (5) a melamine-formaldehyde resin, (6) a urea-formaldehyde resin, (8) carboxymethyl cellulose and (9) carboxymethyl cellulose and soaps. The products may be used as bactericidal powders or solutions and, in Example (9), as a germicidal soap. U.S.A. Specification 2,047,398 is referred to.ALSO:A bactericidal composition comprises iodine in combination with a water-soluble polymer selected from methyl and carboxy methyl cellulose, amine-formaldehyde resins and copolymers of maleic anhydride with polymerizable vinyl compounds. In the examples, iodine is mixed on a roller mill with (1) a methyl vinyl ethermaleic anhydride copolymer, (2) sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, (4) methyl cellulose, (5) a melamine-formaldehyde resin, (6) a urea-formaldehyde resin, (8) carboxymethyl cellulose and (9) carboxymethyl cellulose and soap. The products of the invention may be used as bactericidal powders or solutions and in Example (9) as a germicidal soap. U.S.A. Specification 2,047,398 is referred to.
