Abstract
822,242. Dish washing machines. WEFCOMA INTERNATIONAL A.G. April 12, 1957 [April 13, 1956; Feb. 15, 1957], No. 11993/57. Class 138(1). A washing-up and rinsing machine for crockery, having a compartment in which are located two spraying devices, one for spraying washing-up water on to the crockery and the other for rinsing, and a movable carriage for receiving and supporting crockery, is characterised by the provision therein of a heater through which water for rinsing can flow, the said heater being so structurally combined with a part through which the washing-up water passes that heat is transmitted from said heater to the washing-up water. As shown, sprays 7 and 17 are used for washing and sprays 24 and 25 for rinsing. Water is drawn from sump 2 into pump 4 driven by motor 3 and forced up pipe 6 into sprays 17 and into spraying chamber 7, whence it emerges as jets from perforated plate 8. This plate is provided with a handle 33 to facilitate its removal from the heater when it requires cleaning. Fig. 2 shows an enlarged drawing of heater 18 which is supplied with fresh water from pipe 22, is heated by heater element 20 and has an outlet 23 to sprays 24 and 25 and another outlet 28 which leads to the sump via cock 27 and pipe 29. The heat-conductive wall 30 of heater 18 is provided with fins 31 to increase heat flow into chamber 7. Operation of the machine is started by opening cock 27 and passing water from pipe 22, through the heater and into sump 2. When sufficient water is present cock 27 is closed and remains so until it is desired to replace completely the washing water. The pump is set in operation and plates 9 on a wheeled basket 13 are washed by sprays 7, 17 and then rinsed under sprays 24, 25. The alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 3 has a heater 18 below the sump and water circulated through the washing sprays passes through filter 47 and pipe 5<SP>1</SP> which is heated by water in heater 18. 42 is a drain pipe from the sump. The water heater 18 may be arranged at the side of the trough, or partly or wholly inside, or above instead of below same. In place of electric heater element 20 a gas heater 60 may be used. Water supplied to heater 18 passes through valve 57 which is electromagnetically controlled from the drive mechanism of the basket-like carriage 13 in such a manner that said valve is open only when the carriage is in the rinsing position. The door 12 is flexible and may be coupled to the carriage 13 as described in Specification 667,595 so that on closing the door, the carriage with dirty crockery moves automatically into the position shown in Fig. 1 ; whilst on opening the door the carriage retreats through the rinsing station on to bracket 15.
