Abstract

821,870. Spinning; shearing. MICKLEOVER TRANSPORT Ltd. Dec. 10, 1957 [Dec. 12, 1956], No. 38000/56. Class 83 (4). A sheet-metal shaping-machine comprising two opposed rotatably mounted rollers between which a rotating sheet is disposed is characterized in that in addition to the means for imparting rotation to the rollers and sheet, means are provided for effecting swinging movement of a mounting for the sheet about an axis transverse to the axis of rotation of the sheet and disposed away from the rollers. The machine comprises rollers 11 and 12 mounted on parallel axes inclined to the horizontal, the upper roller 11 being adjustable vertically and horizontally in known manner. The mounting for the sheet to be shaped comprises an arm 13 provided with spaced holes 14 each of which may be brought to register with holes 16 in a pair of vertical stanchions 15 and a pivot-pin 18 introduced therein. The sheet is first cut into a disc and then clamped to the end of the arm 13 which is rocked during the spinning operation about the pivot 18 by means of connecting-rods 36 attached to a nut 34 on a lead-screw 32 geared to a variable speed gear 42. In a modification the arm and stanchions are provided with slideways for accommodating two slides pivoted together with means for clamping the slides to the slideways. In another modification the arm is formed in two telescoping parts 46 and 47 (Fig. 3). The connecting-rod 36 is forked and pivoted at 51 to the part 47. A pin 48 which extends through slots 49 in the part 47 engages in cam slots 52 in the limbs 50 of the forked rod 36. Thus articular movement between the rod 36 and part 47 of the arm will cause the other part 46 to be extended or withdrawn to vary the radius of swing. The lower end of the arm part 47 is pivoted to a block 54 which engages a fixed vertical slideway 55. The block is reciprocated in the slideway by a cam 58 rotated by chain-and-sprocket transmission 60 driven from the lead-screw 32. Thus the axis of swing may be varied automatically during the swing movement to impart various shapes to the disc varying from a conical to a spherical shape. Shearing.-The sheet may be cut into circular shape by two special cutting-rollers which replace the spherical shaped rollers and the cutting is effected by imparting up-and-down movement to the upper roller which is displaced to one side of the cutting-edges of the other roller.
